Chinese Herbs

Treatment with Chinese herbal medicine involves the use of combinations or 'recipes' of herbs with a long history of traditional use. These include roots, stems, flowers, leaves, seeds, fruits and barks. The ingredients and dosages are adjusted to suit the individual patient's problem. This approach can provide a very personal and effective treatment. Prescriptions may be for raw herbs, concentrated powders or ready-made pills.

For effectiveness and your convenience I mostly prescribe powdered herbs which are easy to prepare by simply adding boiling water.

Although Chinese Medicine can sometimes include ingredients of animal origin, at Thornhill Chinese Medicine Clinic I never use these, preferring instead to use a wide range of plant materials. I do not use any endangered plants and always use batch numbered herbs from suppliers who are approved by the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine. The batch number system and approved supplier list ensures the authenticity and quality of the herbs I use. Chinese herbs are very safe to use when prescribed correctly by a properly trained practitioner.

I am a member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine abiding by their Code of Practice, Dispensary Code and scheme for Continuing Professional development.
